Lennard was born in 1988 in Utrecht, hometown of Miffy’s creator Dick Bruna. As a student at the school of Visual Arts in Utrecht he stood out with an amazing signature style, which is mostly inspired by his predilection for comics.
His drawings look wonderfully minimalistic but when you look closer you see a whitty, wonderful and sometimes surreal narrative. Like our girl Tryst for example. She smokes a cigarette while keeping her eyes at the door. A tryst being a secretive rendezvous between two lovers, on a certain time and at a certain place adds a little bit of extra to this naked mystery. We know one thing for sure: there was a very specific dress code that night.
While creating Tryst, Lennard got back to using his palette again (he’s more of a monochrome kind of guy) and we really dig that. You might have seen his drawings in the New York Times, Apartamento Magazine or on It’s Nice That or Juxtapoz Magazine. He also works on comics, collectables, spreads and book illustrations.
